Ways to fund your retrofit training

Funding & support.

We’ll help you navigate funding routes and choose an option that fits. We currently have funding available for retrofit training under the UK Government's Warm Homes Skills Programme.

DESNZ-funded retrofit training
Build a career in retrofit

Government-backed retrofit training.

A range of retrofit courses are currently subsidised through the Warm Homes Skills Programme (WHSP), helping learners gain accredited qualifications at a fraction of the usual cost.

The scheme supports professionals, career changers and new entrants to build the skills needed to deliver the UK’s Net Zero targets.

Funding covers between 60 and 70% of course costs, with the remainder usually made up with a learner or employer contribution. We are confident that we offer some of the best-value retrofit training currently available in the UK.

UK Government and Midlands Net Zero Hub

Government-subsidised training

Warm Homes Skills Programme.

The Warm Homes Skills Programme (WHSP) is a national initiative funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and delivered in partnership with the Midlands Net Zero Hub. Its purpose is to build the skilled workforce required to retrofit the UK’s homes and buildings for a low-carbon future.

Phase 1 of the programme (2025 – 2026) provides £8 million of grant funding to approved training providers in England. Synergy Training Centre is proud to be one of them, helping learners across the country access accredited retrofit qualifications at heavily subsidised prices.

Who can benefit?

Funding is available to anyone aged 19 or over who lives and works in England, including employees, the self-employed, and those seeking to enter the retrofit or energy-efficiency sector. We welcome learners from all backgrounds, whether you are already active in construction or starting a new career path.

What’s covered by the funding?

Under WHSP, Synergy Training Centre delivers a range of Level 2–5 accredited qualifications aligned with PAS 2035 and PAS 2038. These include:

Courses are 60-70% funded, meaning most learners pay only a small contribution towards registration and certification fees. Each course is fully accredited by ABBE, NOCN or GQA Qualifications and delivered with tutor support, flexible online study options, and practical assignments designed around real-world projects.

Why this matters

The UK’s journey to net-zero depends on skilled people who can upgrade buildings safely, efficiently, and to standard. By taking part in the Warm Homes Skills Programme with Synergy Training Centre, you are not just gaining a qualification: you’re contributing to lower energy bills, better homes, and a more sustainable future.

Industry subsidies

Other funding and support.

Beyond the Warm Homes Skills Programme, several options can help reduce your training costs.

CITB short course grants

Eligible employers registered with CITB can claim grants to support retrofit and energy-efficiency training, usually up to £600 per learner, per eligible course.

Synergy Training Centre is a CITB Approved Training Organisation.

Employer sponsorship

Employers can part-fund staff training or use apprenticeship levy transfer schemes for retrofit skills development.

In certain cases, regional Local Authorities have bursaries available for local businesses to upskill their workforce. We'll highlight any that we're aware of.

Individual support

Unfortunately, not all of the courses we offer attract funding, either due to course eligibility under funding schemes, or learner location.

Self-funding learners can still benefit from attractive rates and may be able to pay in staged instalments in some cases.
